People in the past were used to carrying around cash, but as we have developed more banking services and new technologically, people have started to rely on credit cards and electronic money.

Check cashing services could replace traditional banking services in the future. Even at this time, these services are used so widely that most banks have come up with their own check cashing services to keep up with their customers' demand. This alternative to traditional banking has become a serious competitor in the financial services industry during the past ten years.

Check cashing services are replacing the conventional banking system.

Numerous new establishments provide an alternative to people who once had to travel to banks and line up in long lines to conduct their financial transactions.

There are many stores, kiosks, and banks around the nation that provide check cashing services, as well as e-Stores and electronic banking. These stores and kiosks offer various types of check cashing similar to those in banks. They can cash personal checks, payroll checks, government checks, out-of-state checks, money orders, travelers' checks, insurance checks, tax refund checks, settlement checks, and Social Security checks.

Recently, some check cashing services have gotten into trouble with the law.

Some of these companies were accused of preying on customers on paydays, especially those who desperately need money.

These financial service centers were apparently said to have been involved in identity theft schemes as well. They were said to have inadvertently sold personal and financial records to fraud artists. In one instance, one of the companies was said to have electronically delivered thousands of customers' reports including the names, addresses, social security numbers, financial information and other details to fraud artists. Future customers are advised to be careful when using check cashing services..

An employee background check can include a number of verifications such as the applicant's educational background, previous employment, social security number, credit history, criminal history, drug history, and medical history.

All these checks are to ensure the employer or the company that the candidate is indeed trustworthy and would not create any problems with the other employees or company records or in general with the company in the future.

An employee background screening might involve some basic information such as educational qualifications, date of birth, previous employers and the references provided. However, some background checks could also be industry specific.

If the post is for that of a driver of a utility vehicle or company vehicles, it might prove useful to check the driver record.

Motor vehicle or past driving history might provide an indication of the person's behavior with a vehicle. Also, a driver who deals with school buses and who deals with kids needs to have a clean criminal and sexual abuse record.

Companies that require the applicant for office jobs need to know about the applicant's criminal records to avoid any thefts in the office. Also a sexual harassment record can prove to be very helpful in the long run, particularly if the person is in an office with female employees.

If the application is for a worker who might need to lift weights or other work that might require physical labor, it might help to check the applicant's medical history.

Also, the worker's compensation history can help the company from avoiding hiring someone who is forever looking for chances to sue the owners or the company.

Companies that provide corporate credit cards must check for the bankruptcy history of the applicant along with the credit rating. This will help in avoiding hassles relating to the credit card.

Employers must take care to get to know that the applicant does not have a drug related problem as this might make the situation in the office dicey. This can be done along with the medical background check.

Employers can either hire an agency for the applicant's pre-employment screening or have a department within the company itself to deal with such screenings. However, these agencies have to follow certain rules dictated by the FCRA while conducting a background check. The reports must contain accurate information and must not mislead the employer..

DULUTH, Minnesota, (ContentDesk) August 5, 2005 -- Duluth Teachers Credit Union, a $58 million-asset institution founded in 1933 to serve the financial needs of the community's education community, has installed an ACOM in-house check printing solution that enables it to deliver high quality member checks at low cost in one day, on a normal schedule, or mere minutes in an emergency situation, it was announced by Credit Union President John Westlund and ACOM Vice President Mark Firmin. The credit union's headquarters are Duluth, where it also maintains a branch in the Kenwood Shopping Center and participates in a shared services center in the Miller Hill Mall. The institution was educator-based until 2004, when it converted to a community-chartered credit union authorized to accept as members any individuals living in or connected to the community. Growth has increased substantially since the change was made and the credit union serves a current membership of 7,800, Westlund said. The acquisition of the ACOM in-house checks system was motivated by the deteriorating quality and correspondingly higher prices of checks the institution obtained for its members from its previous vendor, Liberty Enterprises, Inc., he said. Liberty was recently acquired by John H. Harland Company, Atlanta.

The ACOM solution consists of a PC, check processing software, a MICR-enhanced laser printer, and trimming and binding equipment. Checks are generated as the member orders are placed and each order takes just a few minutes, entry-to-delivery."We have about 3,600 checking accounts and the number is growing rapidly," Westlund said. "Cost is an important factor because we offer several free check programs, among them one for the one-third of our checking accounts held by members 55 and older. We also provide first-check orders free to new accounts, which we open at a rate of 30-50 per month. Checks can become a significant cost factor."The ACOM solution halves this cost, he said, entailing only the cost of paper, supplies and minimal employee resources -- two part-time employees who also have other duties.

Checks to general membership are priced at $11.40, with postage added for the few members who choose to have them mailed."The Liberty check stock had gotten thin, and the copies were virtually tissue," Westlund said. "Conversely, the ACOM checks and copies have a substantial feel that members like. Essentially, the product sells itself and we encounter no resistance when we convert members automatically to in-house checks. They like the quality, they like the price, and the checks enhance our image with members because it shows them that we're looking out for them."Westlund discovered the ACOM in-house checks solution in a credit union magazine article about an application at the Superior Iron Range Credit Union. He contacted the CEO, arranged to see the solution in operation, and was sold immediately, he said.About ACOM Solutions:ACOM Solutions Financial Documents Division is the premier developer and marketer of check and financial document production solutions that enable financial institutions to streamline front office and back office check and financial document production activities, and to create and fulfill customer check orders and reorders in-house versus outsourcing to commercial check vendors.

ACOM Solutions, Inc. is a multidivisional, international developer and marketer of conventional and e-business solutions that integrate with enterprise applications to enhance back office and B2B processes for electronic, Internet and paper-based commerce.

When you see the phrase "joint and several" in a legal document or contract it means that that the parties on one side of the agreement are responsible individually and collectively for the terms of the agreement.Example: In the case of two tenants signing a lease agreement, "joint" means they are jointly responsible for the rent."Several" means that their joint relationship is severed and they are individually responsible for the total amount of the rent.If one does not pay his/her share of the rent the other is responsible for the entire amount. Here's an example of a landlord who had a "joint and several" lease with the added provision that tenants must pay rent with a check, money order or cashier's check in the full amount every month.Landlord allowed the two roommates to pay half the rent each month with two separate checks. Bad policy. It not only creates accounting problems... but if one tenant pays on time and the other is late how do you handle the late penalty? And...If you accept payment from one tenant and the other tenant fails to pay have you risked having accepted a partial rent payment and then not be able to evict? Here's the good news. If you have in your lease a "non-waiver" provision it indicates that even if you allowed lease violations in the past you can at any time demand that tenants comply with the terms of the lease. If the tenants continue to pay with two separate checks you can return the checks and give "notice for failure to pay rent".If they then fail to provide you with a single check for the full amount of the rent you can file a forcible detainer action (eviction). What if tenant #1 pleads that tenant #2 has moved from the property and tenant #1 should only be required to pay their own half of the rent?Show them "joint and several" in your lease agreement and explain that tenant #1 is now responsible for the entire amount of rent.Explain that tenant #1 must pay the full amount and then can seek recovery of one half from tenant #2 in small claims court. If you rent property to more than one tenant be sure your lease has "joint and several" and "non-waiver" clauses.Carefully explain each to every new tenant..

What's the Real Story About Electronic Checks? Accepting electronic checks is essential to any business, and should not be overlooked. As many as 20% of America Online, Prodigy, and CompuServe users pay for their internet access by electronic check. Are you curious about how some web-sites take checks? Have you ever paid your electric bill or cable TV bill by check over the phone? Have you paid your doctor, dentist or insurance company this way? Many of these businesses and individuals are using popular software called CheckWriter to make this possible. These drafts require no signature, just a verbal, fax or electronic authorization from the account holder.

Taking check information is like taking credit card information.

As we enter the new millennium the Internet is evolving into a major meeting ground, one that affords us access to people all over the world and draws us daily into online relationships with individuals we have not yet met. An increasing number of people are using the Internet to meet and get acquainted with potential mates. While many of those online interactions do bloom into friendships and relationships, a small number do not have happy endings Beth Wadsworth learned this lesson the hard way. When Wadsworth began exchanging emails with Thomas Abney, she thought she, too, might have found love on the Internet. It turns out that what she had really found was a dangerous man who would try to kill her.

Wadsworth met Abney in 1999 while surfing the Web. The two hit it off and began corresponding. "We just started talking and trading information about our lives," says Wadsworth. " We seemed to have the same values and morals." After only one month of emailing each other, Wadsworth invited her potential new love to visit her. Abney flew to San Diego, where Wadsworth lives, and the two spent some time getting to know each other off-line.

Abney wasn't who he appeared to be, however. When the visit was coming to an end, he turned violent without warning. "He jumped on me and started strangling me," Wadsworth remembers. "I was totally in shock." When it was over, Abney had attacked Wadsworth with a claw-hammer and slit her throat with a steak knife. He then took Wadsworth's wallet and car keys, leaving her for dead.

"I don't remember being hit, but I had three gashes in my skull," Wadsworth says. "He probably thought I was dead when he left." Beth wasn't dead, however. She managed to call ?911' for help, and Abney was arrested at the airport. He was eventually convicted of premeditated attempted murder, robbery, and auto theft and was sentenced to life plus 14 years in prison. "I felt pretty stupid that I'd let this stranger into my house, and this is what happened," Wadsworth says.

"I will never meet anybody on the Internet again." While the dangers faced by Wadsworth and other singles aren't unique to online dating, the anonymous nature of the Internet does make it easier for people to be deceptive about who they are. With the concerns?and dangers?of meeting others in this manner rising exponentially, it is no surprise that one website has already clicked with millions of netizens: WhoisHe.Com and WhoisShe.Com, a professional service designed to verify if persons are who they purport to be. Are they married? How old are they? Have they ever used an alias? Are they really a doctor? Do they have any bankruptcies, liens or judgments against them? Do they have a criminal record? Have they committed domestic violence? Are they a registered sexual offender? A pedophile?"Know what you are getting into before you invest your heart, money, or your life," says Linda Alexander, a Southern California attorney and website founder. WhoisHe.Com, which works under the motto, "When in Doubt, Check Them Out," offering background checks, personal profiles, criminal and civil record checks for potential mates, prospective employees, in-home service providers, future step-parents, business partners and nannies. The cost of the service provided by WhoisHe.Com and WhoisShe.Com range from $39 to $75. "About 60 percent of the time, we find that people aren't telling the truth," Alexander claims.

Background checks, criminal and civil record checks are important, according to Alexander, because it's easy to be deceived when looking for love online. "You do not have the same visual cues about someone as when you are face to face with a person," she says. "Somebody behind a computer screen, can be anything they want to be. You have no idea who's on the other side of that screen. We tell our clients it is important to Be Safe and Be Smart.

To take control of your future. Information is the key." A similar check could have helped Wadsworth. For instance, Abney had told Wadsworth that he had never been married, but Alexander found a civil record for a divorce. Alexander says that background and record checks would have revealed that Abney had lied about many personal details, which might have served as a warning to Wadsworth. "It tells her that the man is not telling the truth," Alexander asserts.

"He's a liar. He has something to hide in his life. I don't know if it tells her that he's going to swing a hammer over her head and that he's going to beat her almost to death, but I think it is enough to say, 'Watch out, red flag, don't let this man in the door.'" These warning come too late for Wadsworth, who is currently taking a break from romance and the Internet while she works to recover from the physical and emotional wounds she has suffered. "I sleep with the light on every night," she says. "It's affected me." While more and more singles are turning to the Internet to meet their mates and many online dating stories do have happy endings, it is important to remember that there are dangers to digital love.

Wadsworth hopes that what she went through will help to warn others of those dangers.WhoisHe.Com and WhoisShe.Com has been widely recognized on CBS' "48 HOURS" and the CBS Early Show; The Other Half,in People Magazine, listed in Yahoo Internet Life Magazine's top 100 sites for the Year 2000, Seventeen Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, Kiplinger Magazine, and USA Today.Anyone harboring doubts about anyone else can check out the website at http://WhoisHe.Com and at http://WhoisShe.Com and questions can be sent to Admin@WhoisHe.Com or call Linda Alexander, Esq. at 760-806-4377..

The potential to earn profits without really doing much of anything has enticed a lot of people towards affiliate marketing. Is it that simple?

As an affiliate, all that is required of you is to simply place the merchant's ad on your website. Then after that, you virtually do nothing but wait for anyone to click on the merchant's ad and later collect your profits. Easy, right? Well, not quite often.

Successful affiliates in any affiliate program simply don't sit there and wait for money to come. Why? Because there is no money in simply sitting and waiting.

If you want to be successful in affiliate marketing and if you want to continually grow your affiliate checks, you've got to do something. So, what are the steps which one should take to make their affiliate program work better and gain more commissions for you?

1. Become an expert on your affiliate product. You can promote your merchant's product better if you know a lot of things about it. You can also write a testimonial or a personal endorsement ad about it.

2.

Host your own website. Or at least have a domain name that is short and easy to remember. You certainly wouldn't expect a visitor to remember a very long and incomprehensible URL. And if that's so, you also wouldn't expect him to visit your website any time soon.

3. Write your own affiliate ads.

Many merchants usually wouldn't mind if you write and design your own ads for their products. This gives you a greater advantage over a lot of other affiliates who must be advertising the same affiliate products.

4. Participate in chat rooms, discussion boards, and forums related to your product. If you use to ignore them before, then it is time for you to start focusing your attention on them. You can start your own chat or join an existing chat related to your product.

5.

Create a free ezine or newsletter. Ezines and newsletters are periodical publications whose aim is to inform a group of people about a certain subject. In your ezines and newsletters, you don't always have to promote your merchant's product for this may greatly annoy your subscribers. Rather, find a way to insert your affiliate ads and links on some portions of the letter. What's important is that you be able to find a way to attract more traffic to your site, induce your visitors to click on the ads on your site, and be able to promote your merchant's.

If you can do these, there's no reason for you to fail in affiliate marketing.
.

Private companies that help employers investigate a person are steadily growing in numbers. Hiring a private investigator to check on a person need not be very expensive.

Many companies do a basic criminal check such as the SSN verification, credit history check, and driving history check for a very small fee. Reports that might require exhaustive background checks might prove to be a bit more expensive.

Almost all criminal investigation agencies provide easy access through their websites. The person hiring their services just needs to log into the site and provide details of the person and pay for the services. The report would be delivered in as little as 2 to 3 days for a basic criminal check.

An exhaustive report might take around 10 to 15 days for the report.
Private investigators can also be employed to take care of these background checks.
